Lay Claim to Your Brand on the Internet
If you haven't claimed your listings on directories and your competition has claimed theirs, then they have a BIG leg up on you. Directories can drive 15%-20% of your traffic to your web site. And, if you haven't prepared, them you're not showing up. Here are some of the more important directory names 1) Google, 2) Yahoo, 3) Bing, 4) Yelp, 5) Manta, 6) LinkedIn, 7) Foursquare, 8) Merchant Circle, 9) City Search, 10) Kudzu, 11) Local.com, 12) HotFrog, 13) Brownbook, 14) Judy's Book and 15) SuperPages.
Having your listings on the directories will help with SEO, increase your company's name recognition and help you standout against your competition. There are billions of directory searches each month. Here are some interesting statistics:
* 90% of Yelp users real positive reviews and then go to websites
* 45% of local searchers intend to buy
* 70% of online users use local directories
* 88% call the company or visit the web site in 24 hours
With these types of results, you cannot afford not to have your claim on your name in as many directories as possible. What do you need to do for the best results?
1) Set up a Gmail email account using the business name
2) Claim your business on each directory. Most will verify that you are the owner with email notice - some use SMS and others will send post cards or use 800 #'s for call back verification.
3) Create a list of user names and passwords for each directory
4) Consider using Roboform or LastPages for name and password user storage
5) Keep all user names and passwords in a .txt file
6) Craft a description of the business and keep exactly the same for all listings including name, address, telephone numbers, and all contact information
7) Assure business name is consistent for all directories
8) Set up Google analytics to tell which directories are sending you traffic
9) Optimize and Tweak each directory listing
10) Build backlinks to your web site on directories that allow links
11) There are 10 spots on the firstr page of a Google Search, some should be directory listings
12) Use citation sites and reviews whenever possible along with the directories
13) Use resizr.com for placement of logos and graphics on directories
14) Use SEOQuake, a Chrome app to assist in knowing where you rank
15) Use this link to know which backlinks are on your website: www.url.com
